As we head deeper into August, we are looking ahead to some cooler weather in the next few months. The golf course has received historically low amounts of precipitation this summer, totaling less than half an inch of rain since April. Many of the surrounding areas have had a decent amount of rain, but we seem to be in a bubble this year. Dry spots are common during periods such as this as it can be challenging to apply the correct amount of water daily to supply the plants with enough, but not too much water. We try to err on the dry side not only to save water, but to make the course more playable. Wet spots are more difficult to play out of than dry spots. While we always have a mix of wet and dry (especially with a very old irrigation system), we are trying to minimize the wet areas for your golfing enjoyment!
We are looking to add to the concrete cart path near the bathrooms on hole 13. The area does not have good irrigation coverage, making it difficult to grow grass there, and it can be problematic to get carts and equipment through that area without wearing out the turf. We will be widening the existing path so there is parking for player’s carts while at the same time providing a travel lane to allow other traffic to pass through. Since this is a “choke point”, there may be some detours present as we work through excavating, forming, pouring, finishing, and backfilling the area. We appreciate your patience as we make the course better for you!
